Rep. Williams, Sen. Kane Host Regional Energy Forum In Watertown

State Representative Sean Williams, R-68th District, and state Senator Rob Kane, R-32nd District, this week hosted a free informational energy forum at the Watertown Senior Center to help consumers understand how statewide fuel assistance and conservation programs may help them save money this winter. The two legislators were joined by Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) officials.

“Our constituents, understandably, have a lot of questions about how this new legislation will affect them. One of the reasons for holding this forum is to answer those questions, and to stress the importance of determining eligibility for the various programs. Senator Kane and I understand that not everyone who is interested could attend our forum, and we urge those who have questions to contact our legislative offices in Hartford,” Representative Williams said.

“The rising cost of home heating fuels is going to make this winter difficult for everyone, and it is going to become increasingly important for people to know what kind of help is available and how to get it. We are grateful to CL&P for joining us and helping to provide information that will make a real, positive difference for our constituents,” Senator Kane said.

Senator Kane and Representative Williams noted that the General Assembly held a special legislative session last week to pass a $44 million energy relief package that expands home heating assistance programs and energy conservation tax breaks for low- and middle-income families and small businesses.

Senator Kane noted that the Senate Republican Caucus this week announced the details of a new public awareness campaign, including a new easy-to-use website that provides “one-stop shopping” for information and application materials for various state and federal energy assistance programs and tax incentives available to Connecticut residents and businesses. The website address is: www.senaterepublicans.ct.gov/energy.
