Gov. Rell, Rep. Williams, Sen. Kane: Bond Commission Expected to Okay Clockwork Repertory Theater Grant

Governor M. Jodi Rell, state Representative Sean Williams, and state Sen. Rob Kane, today announced that $10,000 in state funding for an electrical system upgrade for the Clockwork Repertory Theater in Watertown is expected to gain approval when the state Bond Commission meets February 29.

The theater, located in the Oakville section of Watertown, which seats 172, has staged 16 original productions since becoming a theater thirty years ago. The 5,000 square foot building was originally built in 1927 as a community center for workers from the nearby Scovill pin plant.

“Countless visitors and long-time Connecticut residents have enjoyed productions at the theater,” Governor Rell said. “Our performing arts centers are points of community pride, gems that occasionally need polishing or upkeep and I am pleased that the State can help fund these electrical system improvements and help the Clockwork Repertory theater look forward to another thirty years.”

Governor Rell thanked Senator Kane, R-32nd District, and Representative Williams, R-68th District, for their support of the project.

“In any community, the arts play a valuable and important role,” Representative Williams said. “Clockwork has been a great ‘neighbor’ for many years and a source of enrichment for our residents.”

“The Clockwork Repertory Theater has been a vital part of our community and I am gratified that we are investing in its physical plant,” Senator Kane said. “Many patrons return year after year, continuing a great local tradition.”
