REPRESENTATIVE SCRIBNER APPLAUDS LOCAL USE OF DOT GRANT |

RANKING MEMBER OF TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE BACKED ESTABLISHING PROGRAM
HARTFORD- State Rep. Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel) today applauded Bethel town officials for being awarded a $250,000 grant from the State Department of Transportation (DOT) to make sidewalk improvements in town. Rep. Scribner serves as the Ranking Member (House Republican Leader) of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee.
The state’s Safe Routes to School program provides funds for infrastructure projects that can encourage students to walk or bike to school. The funds are provided by the federal government and administered through the DOT.
To be eligible, infrastructure projects must reduce speeds and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and access within a 2 mile radius of eligible school. In addition to sidewalk construction, eligible uses include roadway upgrades that encourage bicycle use.
“This is an excellent DOT program,” said Rep. Scribner. “Its use in Bethel will encourage physical activity among nearby students and help all pedestrian traffic and public safety with new sidewalks.”
