REPRESENTATIVE SCRIBNER APPOINTED TO STATE HEALTH PANEL

HARTFORD- State Representative David A. Scribner (R-Brookfield, Bethel) has been appointed by House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero (R- Norwalk) to serve as a member of the state Public Health Advisory Committee. Rep. Scribner is currently serving his fifth term in the General Assembly and also serves as an Assistant Minority Leader in the House of Representatives.

The Public Health Advisory Committee develops plans to respond to public health emergencies. It consists of the Commissioner of the state Department of Public Health, several legislators, the state Office of Emergency Management director and representatives of local and district health directors. It reports annually on the status of an emergency plan and the resources needed to implement it.

In April 2008, Rep. Scribner joined with local and state health officials and personnel in a Pandemic Flu Response Exercise at the Bethel Health Care Center.

“David’s analytical ability, experience and knowledge of resources will make him a tremendous asset to the state commission,” said Bethel Health Care Center Assistant Administrator Susan Tanner who also serves as Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut Board President. “It is extremely important that the state have his seasoned leadership and awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of local agencies and departments, which would be even more critical in a time a crisis, when planning for emergencies and will clearly help our area as well.”

“I’m honored to receive this appointment,” said Rep. Scribner. “In recent years, there have been some very serious public health emergencies both in our state and other states and ensuring our first responders are properly prepared is crucial. I look forward to working on the preparedness plan.”
