Scribner Announces Bethel Open Space Grant

HARTFORD- State Representative David Scribner (R-Brookfield) today announced that the Town of Bethel would receive a $139,500 open space grant through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Open Space and Land Acquisition Grant Program.  The grant will be used to help obtain 16.2 acres at Chestnut Hill.

The property is heavily forested with sections of wetlands with intermittent streams that feed into Waterhorse Brook.  Obtaining and preserving this property could potentially tie in with the creation of a “greenway” through linking this property and a 26-acre open space parcel located across Chestnut Street.

“Any time we can help preserve the character and heritage of the communities we live in by providing for the preservation of open space I am pleased,” said Representative Scribner. “This is a critical and unique parcel of land in the area’s preservation plan, and I applaud the efforts of Governor Jodi Rell and the Department of Environmental Protection in continuing to make our communities a priority.”

The grant goes toward the full purchase price of the parcel which is $310,000.
