Scribner On Hand As Connecticut College and University Campus Leaders Sign Drinking Prevention Pact |

HARTFORD- State Representative David Scribner (R-Brookfield) will be present as presidents from a number of state universities and colleges gather to sign the Statewide Healthy Campus Initiative, which is designed to reduce the abuse of alcohol by students, particularly those under the legal drinking age. Representative Scribner, who was selected last month by Governor M. Jodi Rell to lead a Connecticut delegation to Washington D.C. for a national conference on underage drinking, will be on hand for the ceremony.
Representative Scribner has worked on a number of initiatives intended to reduce underage drinking during his years as a state legislator, including bills that make it illegal for someone to knowingly permit a minor to illegally possess alcohol on their property. He was awarded the “Outstanding Legislator Award” by the Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking last year.
“This commitment by a large number of distinguished university and college heads is a significant one in the battle against underage drinking, and the problems and tragedies that are its fallout,” said Representative Scribner. “I am pleased to be there for the signing of this pact, and thank them all for their dedication to combat underage drinking.”
The event will take place at the University of Hartford’s 1877 Club in the Harry Grey Conference Center at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 20th. Proclamations signed by Governor Rell will be featured, and several senior state officials, such as the commissioners of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Higher Education, will be present for the ceremony.
