Hoover Appointed to Board of Trustees for Department of Veterans’ Affairs

 

HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Lawrence Cafero, Jr. has reappointed Captain James M. Hoover (U.S. Air Force, Retired) to the Board of Trustees for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.  Captain Hoover was originally appointed to the Board at the recommendation of Rep. Pam Sawyer (R-Bolton) while Vernon was part of the 55th Assembly District.

 

“Captain Hoover has distinguished himself as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs,” said Representative Sawyer.  “His experience and expertise have been an invaluable asset and a positive influence on the workings of the Board.  He has certainly earned reappointment as someone who has consistently worked in the interests of Connecticut’s veterans.”

 

Captain Hoover is an Air Force Vietnam War era veteran, serving as an enlisted security policeman and administrator from 1969-1973, earning the rank of sergeant.  Following his commissioning as an officer, he served from 1973-1989 in various posts including Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, Edwards Air Force Base in California, AFPTO Pratt & Whitney, Connecticut as an administrator, squadron commander and United States Contracting Officer.

 

Captain Hoover earned his BA at California State University at Long Beach in 1968 in Economic Geography and also earned his Elementary Education Teaching Certificate.  He attended graduate studies at Cambridge University, England, in for International Relations from 1978-1979.  He completed Squadron Officers School in 1976 and Air Command Staff College in 1983.  He is a certified Associate Contract Manager (CACM) through the National Contract Management Association.

 

Captain Hoover has also distinguished himself as a lifetime member of the Military officer’s Association (MOAA), a former member of the Vernon Town Council, Vice Chairman of Lamb’s Way Ministries for Differently Challenged Children and as a member of the Toastmasters International.
