Ruwet: Future Foundations Receives $15,000 Grant

More children will benefit from a Torrington after-school educational program with scholarships and equipment funded by a state grant secured by State Rep. Anne L. Ruwet, R-65, Torrington.

Future Foundations has received $15,000.00 from the Office of Policy and Management from a request made by Rep. Ruwet. The funds from this grant will be divided and used for scholarships and general equipment.

The scholarships are allocated to families that qualify, who are otherwise unable to afford after school programming at Future Foundations for their children. A General Equipment fund has been established to purchase supplies for a positive youth development program in order to expand activities provided at Future Foundations.

“Nothing is more important than assuring children start out in life in a positive direction,” said Rep. Ruwet. “This program helps young people reach their highest potential. It encourages them to develop academic and life skills that benefit them, society and the future of Connecticut.”

Dana Jacquemin, Future Foundations director said, “When I first met Representative Ruwet several years ago, we had one thing in common, and that was our passion for keeping the children of Torrington safe and happy. Thanks to Representative Ruwet we now have a scholarship program and the funds to enhance our after school program.  We are proud of all Representative Ruwet has done to support after school programs and the children of Torrington.”

Mrs. Jacquemin added, “Families know how important it is to have their child enrolled in a positive program where they can participate in cooking, karate, arts and crafts, computers, and literacy, in a safe and licensed environment at a relatively low cost to families. Unfortunately, transportation has been a struggle for many after school programs in Torrington, but behind the scenes Representative Ruwet and Mayor Bingham have been working hard to help us try and secure future funding in order for transportation to be possible citywide.  Thanks to Representative Ruwet and her continued support, she has helped Future Foundations provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere for the children of Torrington.”

The funding will assist Futures Foundation which provides after-school educational program, at the Greater Torrington Family Development Center on Fern Street in Torrington.

Future Foundations provides quality, affordable, non-sectarian after-school programming for elementary and middle school students in the greater Torrington area. The children participate in programs that teach both academic and life skills through hands on learning.

Rep. Ruwet serves the 65th Assembly District of Torrington in the state House of Representatives.
