Statement of State Rep. Anne L. Ruwet, R-65th, Torrington, On site selection for Litchfield County Courthouse in Torrington

“This is probably the largest accomplishment in a generation. It has been about 25 years in the making, and finally we will see a new, modern courthouse for the people of Litchfield County in the near future.

“After years of cooperation among state and local officials, I am extremely excited to see this new courthouse finally moving forward. In the coming months, we will work coop with the Judicial Department, state Department of Public Works and local leaders to see that the project goes ahead as planned.

“With the courthouse site selected, we can now move forward with downtown redevelopment. The focus then will shift to some major infrastructure improvements such as sidewalk repairs and going ahead with façade enhancements.

“The courthouse site selection is really a pivotal point for the redevelopment of Torrington’s downtown.”
