Governor Rell Announces $400,000 in ‘STEAP’ Funding

For Trumbull Park Projects

Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that $400,000 in new state funding will soon be available to pay for a variety of improvements at five town parks in Trumbull. The funding comes from the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) that is to be approved at the next meeting of the State Bond Commission.

“These parks contain hiking trails, tennis courts, picnic areas, playgrounds and Trumbull’s largest outdoor pool – all valuable community assets that need our attention now,” Governor Rell said. “Trumbull families, visitors and the community as a whole will benefit from these quality-of-life improvements at these parklands, which cover hundreds of acres. These enhancements will keep these local parks beautiful for years to come.”

The parks slated for improvements are:

·        Robert Beach Memorial Park

·        Greenbelt tennis courts

·        Indian Ledge Park

·        Gunther Memorial Park

·        Island Brook Park

Governor Rell thanked state Representatives T.R. Rowe and Jack Stone, both of whom represent parts of Trumbull in the General Assembly, for their leadership on these projects.

“The people of Trumbull enjoy these parks every day of the year and we appreciate these new investments by our state,” said Representative Rowe. “Governor Rell deserves our gratitude.”

“Trumbull is blessed with many parks that are a great source of civic pride, and it is important to keep them upgraded so that our families can continue to enjoy them for many more years,” Representative Stone said.

A total of $20 million has been authorized for more than 100 small towns under the STEAP program this fiscal year.  The Bond Commission will meet Friday, October 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
