Representative Perillo Sworn In, Assigned Committees

HARTFORD- After a resounding election victory last Tuesday, Representative Jason Perillo (R-113) was sworn in this afternoon at a brief ceremony in Governor M. Jodi Rell’s office.  Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz administered the oath of office to Rep. Perillo in the presence of a small gathering of friends and family including his father Joseph, Uncle Patrick Tisi, Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti, and Board of Aldermen President John Anglace.

Perillo, a Republican member of the Shelton Board of Aldermen and Chief of Echo Hose Ambulance, was elected in a special election following the sudden death on August 20th of Representative Richard O. Belden who had held the seat since 1974.  He was asked by the Belden family to carry on the great public work Belden was known for in his 33 years in office.

“I am deeply honored to be serving the people of Shelton,” said Representative Perillo. “Dick Belden will be in my thoughts as he will continue to be in the thoughts of everyone in Shelton.  I intend to go to work right away working for Shelton and the State of Connecticut with a standard and determination that I hope would make Dick proud.”

Representative Perillo will serve on the legislature’s Environment and Commerce Committees, as well as the legislature’s budget-writing Appropriations Committee.

“These committees put me right in the middle downtown development and the preservation of open space,” said Perillo.  “These two issues are central to Shelton’s long-term success, so I feel good about the work I can do for our town in Hartford.”
