House Congratulates Pomperaug Warriors |

Legislature Welcomes 2005 New England Pop Warner Pee Wee Champs
HARTFORD – State Representatives Arthur J. O’Neill (R-Southbury), Anthony D’Amelio (R-Waterbury) and David Labriola (R-Naugatuck) welcomed the 2005 New England Pop Warner Pee Wee Football Champion Pomperaug Warriors and their coaches to the chamber of the State House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, earning hearty congratulations from members of the legislature.
The Pomperaug Warriors amassed an incredible season of victory, winning the 2005 Western Connecticut Pop Warner Pee Wee Championship, the 2005 Connecticut Pop Warner Pee Wee State Championship, and the 2005 New England Pee Wee Championship. The team went to the Pee Wee Super Bowl held at Disney World in Orlando, Florida where they were finally defeated.
“We were thrilled to have the Pomperaug Warriors visit us at the House of Representatives,” said Representative O’Neill. “The state and the New England region can certainly be proud of the remarkable achievements of this great team of youngsters and their coaches, as well as the parents and families that supported them.”
“This is a great team of kids who achieved great things,” said Representative D’Amelio. “We are all tremendously proud of them and their remarkable victories. It was great to see the team here at the Capitol and see them properly congratulated by the legislature of the state they have made so proud.”
“These young athletes have achieved tremendous victories on the football field,” said Representative Labriola. “They had a great time visiting us in the House of Representatives and we were glad to welcome them.”
Each legislator was presented with a Warriors football jersey with their name and district number on it by the team.
Pop Warner Football has its origins in 1929 Philadelphia as a local area club, and has become one of the oldest youth sports programs in America, named for Glen “Pop” Warner, one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. Currently over 300,000 kids, 35,000 coaches and 3 million volunteers participate in Pop Warner today.
