Gov. Rell, Reps Piscopo, Miner, Sen. Roraback: $387,353 Okayed for Northfield F. D. Community Center |

The State Bond Commission has approved a $387,353 grant for construction of a large community center at the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department’s new firehouse on Knifeshop Road, Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative John E. Piscopo, R-76th District, said today.
The Bond Commission approved the grant at its monthly meeting today (March 31, 2006).
“I am pleased to support the funding of this important resource for the residents of Northfield,” Governor Rell said. “Construction of the community center with the firehouse will not only be cost-effective, it will give the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department more capacity for meetings, training and special events.”
“The new community center at the firehouse will be a great asset for the Village of Northfield,” said Representative Piscopo. “Civic and community organizations like the beautification committee, the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts will have a spacious, modern facility where they can meet to work on projects that benefit the community. The community center has been in the works since I first became involved in the effort to build a new firehouse in Northfield. This grant is crucial to the completion of this long-awaited project and I’d like to thank Governor Rell for supporting it.”
“This grant will enable the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department to complete a vitally important project in the community. When completed, this facility will serve a number of key public safety and community purposes. The funds will help bring about the culmination of a vision shared by hardworking volunteers in Northfield,” Rep. Miner said.
“I am very grateful for Governor Rell's generous support of a project which is of utmost importance to the people of Northfield. The new firehouse will be the center not only for public safety for the Village of Northfield, but will also be the community hub for a wide range of civic and social activity,” Senator Roraback said.
The project will consist of a 1,850-square-foot community room, with kitchen, pantry and other facilities. It also will include heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and sprinkler systems, and public parking.
