Little Leaguers Feted in Hartford |

HARTFORD—The best Little Leaguers in New England were welcomed as heroes Friday at the Capitol as state Reps. Larry Miller and Jason Perillo praised the winning play of Shelton’s favorite baseball team.
Shelton National Little League represented the region recently during the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, Pa. The players, accompanied by their parents and coaches, toured a few Capitol offices and posed for photographs with state leaders such as Miller and Perillo and state Sen. Dan Debicella. Republicans Miller, Perillo and Debicella represent Shelton. The team left a few gifts, including a signed baseball.
The boys soaked up a standing ovation when introduced to members of the General Assembly. Perillo, R-113, told his House colleagues about the team’s exploits on the baseball diamond. Their sportsmanship impressed him most.
“They did it with dignity, they did it with pride and they did it with respect for their competitors,” Perillo said.
Miller and Perillo took the team to Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s office, where the two legislators, with Debicella, flanked the governor while proud parents snapped pictures of their young ball players.
Before the visit with Rell, Miller told the Little Leaguers to savor their accomplishments in Williamsport.
“This is an experience you’ll always remember,” he said. “Life is full of experiences. Hopefully they’ll all be like this.”
Debicella, R-21, welcomed the boys to the Senate chamber. "It was a thrill for all of Connecticut to watch Shelton's Little Leaguers compete in Williamsport. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to welcome them to our Capitol to celebrate their accomplishments," Debicella said. "The competitive drive and team spirit that made these boys successful in the Little League World Series will help each of them succeed in whatever they choose to do in life."
