Miller Reminds Residents of Heating Assistance |

HARTFORD- Representative Lawrence Miller (R- 122) is reminding residents about the availability of home heating assistance for those who may need it.
“Particularly with the recent increases in the cost of energy, it is understandable that people may need energy assistance more now than ever,” said Representative Miller.
Miller noted that those interested in establishing eligibility and applying for assistance should visit their local Community Action Agency. If your household income is below a certain level per number of occupants, you will qualify for the assistance. Currently you qualify if your household income is lower than $2,397 per month for once occupant, $3,135 for two occupants, $3,872 for three occupants, $4,610 for four occupants, $5,348 for five occupants, and $6,085 for six occupants.
Local Community Action Agencies require proof of income for all occupants, a copy of your fuel/utility bill, and a Social Security number for all occupants of the house, or proof that a Social Security number has been applied for.
Miller also said that residents who have had their utility service shut off can apply for hardship status from their utility company. This status will require the utility company to turn your gas heat service or electricity back on from November 1st until May 1st.
Resources may be limited, and Miller urged all residents in need of energy assistance to act as quickly as possible before the coldest winter months arrive.
