Rep. Miller: Low-income Households Should Apply for CT Energy Assistance Program Now |

With home heating costs expected to be higher than ever this winter, low-income families should apply for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) as soon as possible, state Representative Lawrence G. Miller, R-122nd District, said today.
The energy assistance program, which provides assistance to low-income households to offset home heating costs, began taking applications on August 15th of this year even though the benefits did not begin until November 1. Applications can take up to 45 days to process, but immediate fuel delivery should be available if needed, Representative Miller said.
However, although oil and gas prices have decreased since the summer months, when they reached record high levels, they are still extremely high and eligible residents should apply immediately to ensure they receive the benefit before the winter heating season sets in, Representative Miller said.
Households that use a deliverable fuel (oil, gas, kerosene) as their primary heat source should apply now through their local community action agencies, or call Infoline (2-1-1) or the Department of Social Services (DSS) Energy Line (1-800-842-1132) for information on where to apply, Representative Miller said.
You should apply for the program if your income is less than the following amounts:
Household Size Monthly Income
1 $2,322
2 $3,037
3 $3,751
4 $4,466
5 $5,181
6 $5,895
Shelton residents can apply at TEAM, Inc. at 30 Elizabeth Street in Derby (Tel: 736-5420). Stratford is covered by Action for Bridgeport Community Development Inc, 1070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport (Tel: 384-6904). Bring proof of income for everyone in the household and a copy of your fuel or utility bill. For more information, please call either agency.
