Governor Rell & Rep. Kalinowski Announce $13,200 STEAP Grant for Durham

Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that $13,200 for a study of the Durham Center Water System gained approval when the state Bond Commission met on March 28.

The funds will be used to perform a Ground Water Under Direct Influence Study of the Durham Center Water System. The funds are being made available through the Connecticut Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). STEAP provides financial assistance for projects that encourage economic development and preserve the character of the state’s less populated towns.

“These funds will be used for a study of Durham’s center water system,” said Governor Rell. “STEAP is an opportunity for our state’s smaller towns to receive the funding they need to make improvements.”

“This is wonderful news for the town of Durham,” said State Representative Raymond Kalinowski, 100th District. “Our state’s smaller towns rely on these types of grants in order to fund important projects and I am glad we were able to secure this funding for Durham.”

More than $19.7 million in STEAP funds for 72 towns were approved by the Bond Commission today.  The funds will enable 83 projects across the state to move forward.
