Kalinowski Announces Middlefield Grant Through Small Cities Program

HARTFORD – State Representative Ray Kalinowski (R-100) today announced that the town of Middlefield has received funding through the federal Small Cities Community Development Block Grant.

Middlefield has been awarded $300,000 to continue its housing rehabilitation program.  The town is to provide deferred payment loans to income-eligible homeowners and plans to rehabilitate 10-15 units by correcting code-related deficiencies.

“I am pleased that Middlefield has been awarded these grants,” said Representative Kalinowski. “The town has some critical projects that the funding will assist with, and it is particularly nice that the local government won’t have to turn to local taxpayers to support them.  I appreciate Governor Rell keeping Middlefield as a priority with her assistance in getting this funding allocated. ”

The federal funds are allocated through the State Department of Economic and Community Development under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Middlefield was one of twenty-eight towns awarded a total of over $13 million in Small Cities funds which were allocated to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and revitalization of development projects.
