Kalinowski: Athletic Field Funding Clears Hurdle

Durham and Middlefield Will Benefit From Funding

HARTFORD- State Representative Ray Kalinowski (R-100th Dist.) today announced that funding to improve the Regional District 13 athletic fields in the towns of Durham and Middlefield are making progress in the state legislature.

Representative Kalinowski proposed legislation earlier this session to have the Regional District receive $1 million for improvements to the fields.  The Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee has approved $500 thousand in state funds for that purpose during FY 09.

“I am deeply appreciative of the Finance Committee’s approval of my request, and I will continue to work to see that adequate funding is secured for the improvement of these fields in Durham and Middlefield,” said Kalinowski.  “The kids and families of both towns get a great deal of use out of these fields, and the arrival of springtime makes the need for improvements all the more clear.”

Kalinowski noted that the negotiations between Governor M. Jodi Rell and the legislature on the next two-year budget are ongoing, and are expected to conclude near the close of the regular session, which is scheduled for midnight, June 6th, 2007.  The final bonding package which would include Kalinowski’s request would be finalized then.
