REP. HOVEY: MONROE RESIDENTS APPOINTED TO STATE PANELS |

State Representative DebraLee Hovey (R-Monroe, Newtown) today announced that Enid Lipeles has been appointed to serve on the Child Poverty and Prevention Council and Margaret Villani has been appointed to the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education. Lipeles and Villani, both Monroe residents, were appointed by State House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr. (R-Norwalk) at the recommendation of Rep. Hovey.
The Childhood Poverty and Prevention Council develops and promotes the implementation of a 10-year plan to reduce the number of children living in poverty in the state by fifty percent. It also establishes prevention goals and recommendations and measure prevention service outcomes in order to promote the health and well-being of children and families.
The Board of Governors for Higher Education is the statewide coordinating and planning authority for Connecticut's public and independent colleges and universities. The Board makes higher education policy, reviews public college and university missions and budgets, recommends system-wide budgets to the Governor and General Assembly, licenses and accredits academic programs and institutions (both public and independent), evaluates institutional effectiveness and coordinates programs and services between the public and independent sectors.
Since 2000, Lipeles has served as chair of the Monroe Town Council, and was employed as chemistry teacher at Masuk High School from 1965 to 2007. From 1993 to 2003, Villani served on the Monroe Board of Education and has served in several teaching and guidance positions for school systems in Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut.
“I’m pleased to hear Enid Lipeles and Margaret Villani have received these appointments,” said Rep. Hovey. “They each bring tremendous experience and dedication to public service to their positions. I am thankful to Representative Cafero for making the appointments.”
