Rep. Hovey Announces 2007 Survey Results For 112th District |

The majority of Monroe and Newtown voters (35 percent) want the State Legislature to make addressing the high cost of electricity and gasoline its top priority, according to a survey sent to constituents throughout the 112th General Assembly District.
Of seven possible top priorities voters were asked to consider as the Legislature’s primary focus making government more accountable to state residents (28 percent) and improving healthcare access (14 percent) also ranked highly.
Rep. Hovey serves as Ranking Member (House Republican Leader) of the Legislature’s Education Committee. The survey asked voters how the state should address unfunded mandates on local education budgets. 70 percent of respondents replied that the state should either stop imposing mandates completely or fully fund all mandates.
In addition, voters also support the state’s open space preservation efforts. 48 percent of respondents support maintaining the state’s spending level for open space preservation, while 34 percent of respondents back increasing funding for such initiatives Also, 40 percent of respondents support making farmland threatened by development a priority for open space acquisition efforts as the top way to address farmland preservation.
Those were some of the responses to the district-wide legislative survey, noted Rep. Hovey.
“I very much appreciate all the people who took time to respond to the surveys,” said Rep. Hovey. “The questionnaires are an important tool in helping gauge the feeling of constituents on issues that will come before us as legislators during the remainder of the 2007 session and the 2008 legislative session.”
