GIRL SCOUTS NAME REP. HOVEY “WOMAN OF DISTINCTION”

The Girl Scouts of the Housatonic Council Inc. has named State Representative DebraLee Hovey, R-Monroe, a 2007 Woman of Distinction. The honor recognizes women who serve their community and provide positive role models for girls. Rep. Hovey was honored by the council during a luncheon at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn.

"DebraLee Hovey has been a dedicated public servant in representing her community at the State Capitol," said Lynne Raymond, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Housatonic Council. "Her efforts make her a great role model for young women and we are happy to name her a 'Woman of Distinction.'"

“I am very honored to receive this recognition,” said Rep. Hovey. “Until recently, I never realized how many women have gone on to be exemplary in their respective fields who had been girl scouts. The organization teaches young girls leadership skills that they later use as tools to become successful.”

Girl Scouts of Housatonic Council provides membership opportunities to girls in the towns of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Milford, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull. It is open to all girls age 5 through 17 and is part of a worldwide organization of girls and adults in 118 countries through its membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The council headquarters is located in Bridgeport and Camp Iwakta, in Norfolk, Connecticut, and Camp Katoya, in Milford, are sites of troop activities.
