REP. HOVEY:  CL&P MEETING WITH MONROE SENIORS INFORMATIVE, PRODUCTIVE

Utility Co. Agrees To Conduct Energy Assessments On Certain High Meadows Condominiums

On Monday, March 26 CL&P staff met with residents of the High Meadows Condominium complex in Monroe to discuss energy issues and ways to reduce their electricity bills. The meeting was organized by State Rep. DebraLee Hovey, R-Monroe.

Because High Meadows units have electric heat, residents have been hit extremely hard by recent electricity rate increases. Local customers were subject to a 22.4 percent rate increase last year. An additional 7.7 percent increase on residential and commercial customers took effect at the beginning of January 2007.

CL&P provided residents in attendance with Energy Saving Sampler Kits that contained weather proofing materials and energy saving light bulbs and improved efficiency showerheads. The kits help familiarize people with items that can reduce energy costs, said Rep. Hovey.  In addition, residents and CL&P staff also discussed conservation methods, such as washing clothes in cold water, noting that majority of modern detergents work well most stains.

“I am pleased we had such a good turnout and that CL&P gave a very informative presentation,” said Rep. Hovey. “They also agreed to return to perform energy assessments of certain condos because they believe some of the extremely high bills can be reduced by implementing additional efficiency measures.”
