Rep. Hovey Honored by Fairfield County Farm Bureau

Presented with Plaque Citing Efforts on Behalf of Connecticut Agriculture

State Representatives DebraLee Hovey, R-112th District, was honored Tuesday (October 24, 2006) by the Fairfield County Farm Bureau with a plaque citing her for her support for Connecticut Agriculture.

“This is the first time I’ve been honored by the Fairfield County Farm Bureau with this award and it means a lot to me,” Representative Hovey said. “I’ve been working with the bureau in the effort to save family farms in Monroe and elsewhere in the state. Family farms are not only a critical component of Connecticut’s economy, but also play an important role in preserving open space and the rural character of towns like Monroe.”

“Supporting agriculture and preserving family farms has always been one of my top priorities as the 112th District’s state representative. I look forward to working with the farm bureau and Monroe’s farmers for years to come,” Representative Hovey said.

“DebraLee has done a lot to support and encourage agriculture and preserve the quality of life in Monroe. We wanted to recognize her for her work on behalf of our town’s farm families. We’re extremely proud of her and we’re fortunate to have her as our state representative,” said Bruce Benedict of Monroe, who owns a farm in Monroe and serves on the Fairfield County Farm Bureau’s Board of Directors. Mr. Benedict also is the general manager of Benedict’s Home and Garden, 480 Purdy Hill Road, Monroe.

The plaque, which was presented to Representative Hovey by Mr. Benedict on behalf of the farm bureau at its annual meeting at the Stony Hill Inn in Bethel, reads: “Presented to state Representative DebraLee Hovey in appreciation of your support of Connecticut Agriculture.”
