Rep. Hovey: Grant Approved for Fanfare Concerts |

The Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism has approved a $1,000 grant for Fanfare Concerts Ltd., Inc., of Monroe that will support a Baroque musical program for fourth grade students attending Newtown public schools, state Representative DebraLee Hovey, R-112th District, announced today.
The grant will be used support a project utilizing the historic Newtown Meeting House for a Fanfare Concerts Baroque musical program for the fourth grade Newtown students during the 2006 – 2007 school year, Representative Hovey said.
“Fanfare Concerts is a musical ensemble based in Monroe that performs Baroque Music concerts throughout New England and the United States,” Representative Hovey said. “They are dedicated to bringing Baroque music to concertgoers everywhere. But they also understand the importance of acquainting young people with the rich musical heritage of Baroque music. This grant will help them achieve that goal while exposing Newtown fourth graders to music that has stood the test of time but gets little airplay outside of urban cultural centers like New York and Boston.”
Fanfare Concerts is dedicated to the research, publication, performance and recording of Baroque music composed prior to the 19th Century, much of which is available only in handwritten manuscripts that the group researches, transcribes, records, and performs for audiences in Connecticut and elsewhere in the United States, Representative Hovey said.
