REP. HETHERINGTON SEEKS TAX DEDUCTION FOR GREEN ENERGY

A bill introduced by Rep. John Hetherington (R-125) would allow taxpayers to deduct the premium paid for buying electricity from a green source in calculating their state income tax.

“The amount of revenue lost to the state would be leveraged in favor of clean energy,” Hetherington said, “By encouraging people to pay the extra charge to purchase power from an environment-friendly source.”

He cited his bill as “A good example of how government can promote market-based solutions to our environmental challenges.”

Rep. Hetherington represents most of New Canaan and a part of Wilton.
