LOCAL RESIDENT APPOINTED TO MARITIME BOARD |

NEW CANAAN – State Representative John Hetherington, R- 125th District, today announced that New Canaan resident John P. Love has been appointed to the Connecticut Pilot Commission by State House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk.
The Connecticut Pilot Commission advises the Commissioner of Transportation (“DOT”) on issues related to the licensure of marine pilots, the safe conduct of vessels, pilotage rates, and the protection of the ports and waters of Connecticut.
The seven commission members, who are appointed by the Governor and various legislative leaders, represent a broad spectrum of business, maritime, and environmental interests. The Commission currently includes members with expertise in admiralty law and marine regulation, environmental law, involvement in marine-related business, and experience as Merchant Marine and Naval officers.
Mr. Love is a retired Commander, Supply Corps, United States Navy Reserves with 3 years sea duty. He currently, is a Marine Superintendent for Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines and Marine Superintendent and General Counsel of Strong Vessel Operators LLC. He was formerly Admiralty counsel representing ship owners and charters. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Iona College and his Law Degree from Fordham University Law School.
Rep. Hetherington said,” "John Love is superbly qualified. He is an admiralty lawyer with years of involvement in the maritime field, including practical experience at sea. I am very pleased to have proposed him and I am delighted by his appointment."
Mr. Love lives in New Canaan and is a contributing writer for Soundings in Essex, CT as well as a lifelong boater on the Long Island Sound.
