Legislator will become Ranking Member of Government Administration and Elections Committee |

HARTFORD - State Representative John Hetherington (R-New Canaan) today announced his committee assignments for the 2007-08 legislative term.
The New Canaan Representative will serve as Ranking Member of the legislature’s Government Administration and Elections Committee, which deals with issues relating to Election law, Freedom of Information and Ethics. The legislature has, under the Governor’s leadership, made strides to strengthen laws that have improved the integrity of our government.
Representative Hetherington will also be serving on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, and the Public Health Committee.
“John Hetherington will serve the Government Administration and Elections Committee with the thoughtfulness and wisdom that our caucus has come to expect,” said Rep. Cafero. “He has an exceptional grasp of the complex issues facing the committee and will bring a steady approach to the legislative committee process.”
“It is a pleasure to serve as the Ranking Member on the Government Administration and Elections Committee. In recent years this committee has been at the forefront of legislative reform. I believe this committee will continue to improve upon its work,” said Representative Hetherington.
“I am honored Rep. Cafero has placed his faith in me with this appointment. I look forward to the tremendous challenge ahead. I will keep in mind the Republican principle which asks each one of us, is the legislation good for the citizens of Connecticut?”
Hetherington also noted that he was pleased to be put on Finance, Revenue and Bonding, and the Public Health Committees. “Both committees will have important bills to consider that impact the financial well-being and health of this state. I look forward to working on and improving these bills before they reach the House floor.”
Representative Hetherington was re-elected to serve his third term representing the 125th District in November of 2006. The new legislative session kicked off on January 3, 2006, and will conclude this June.
