Rep. Hamzy Honored by Democratic Colleagues in Connecticut Magazine Poll

Democratic Lawmakers Rate Rep. Hamzy as “Most Respected and Admired on the Other Side of the Aisle”

Democratic lawmakers at the state legislature have honored state Representative William A. Hamzy as the ‘Most Respected and Admired [legislator] on the Other Side of the Aisle’ in a poll of his fellow legislators conducted by Connecticut Magazine.

“I’d like to thank my friends and colleagues in the Democratic caucus that I have worked with over the years on legislation of mutual interest to the people of our districts for honoring me in this way. I’m humbled by their support,” said Representative Hamzy, R-78th District. “Although we may differ philosophically on many issues that come before us in the course of a legislative session, that does not mean we cannot treat each other with mutual respect during committee and floor debates and come together on matters that are crucial for the future of our state.

“If we can achieve bipartisan agreement on important measures, it often results in legislation that best serves the people of Connecticut. I’ve played a role in helping us reach that kind of consensus many times in the past and I’d like to think it’s a big reason why my colleagues on the other side of the aisle voted the way they did in the poll,” Representative Hamzy said.

The survey, which Connecticut Magazine sent to all state legislators in July, asked the lawmakers to rate their colleagues on several performance-related categories such as ‘Most Effective,’ ‘Most Conscientious,’ ‘Most Underrated,’ and ‘Most Respected and Admired on the Other Side of the Aisle.’  The results of the poll can be found in the magazine’s October 2008 issue, which is currently on newsstands.
