Rep. Hamzy Presents Big $10,000 Check to Plymouth Center School PTA President Linda Hotchkiss

Presentation Highlights Receipt of $10,000 State Grant for Playscape Expansion Project

State Representative William A. Hamzy today presented an oversize ‘check’ to Plymouth Center School PTA President Linda Hotchkiss to celebrate the recent receipt by the town of a $10,000 grant that will help pay for the second phase of the playscape expansion project at the Plymouth Center School.

“Although we were delighted to learn in April that the state Office of Policy and Management had approved the $10,000 grant for the playscape expansion project, we can really celebrate now that we know the check has arrived and has been deposited in the town treasury.  This grant is a major milestone for the PTA in its years-long effort to expand the Plymouth Center School playscape,” said Representative Hamzy, R-78th District, who worked with Governor Rell and OPM officials for several months to secure the grant.

“We’re thrilled and excited to have received this grant. We’d like to thank Representative Hamzy for his help in securing the funding. It has enabled us to buy the equipment we need to expand the playground and accommodate more children,” Mrs. Hotchkiss said. “We expect the new equipment to be delivered by August 21st. PTA volunteers and members of the PTA playground committee will begin assembling and installing the new equipment beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 23rd. We are still looking for volunteers, so anyone who would like to help out is welcome to join us.”

Since the playground is open to all Plymouth and Terryville children, the PTA also will install a playground rules sign to enhance safety, Mrs. Hotchkiss said.

The second phase of the expansion project includes the installation of more climbing equipment, a fireman’s pole, a Braille panel, a balcony deck, and an imagination panel. The new equipment will allow more children to use the facility at one time. The playscape is handicapped accessible, providing recreational opportunities to children with special needs as well. The second phase of the project is expected to be completed before September, Mrs. Hotchkiss said.
