Gov. Rell, Rep. Hamzy: Bond Commission Approves $400,000 to Cap Plymouth Landfill |

The State Bond Commission Friday approved a $400,000 grant to help pay for costs associated with capping and closing the Plymouth landfill, Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative William A. Hamzy said today.
The Bond Commission approved the funding at its regular monthly meeting Friday, March 28th at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
“Capping and closing the landfill once and for all is consistent with the state’s environmental priorities,” Governor Rell said. “It is a critical project that needs to get started as soon as possible. In addition to the benefits to the community, the landfill will be closed in such a manner as to prevent pollutants from leaching from the site and impacting groundwater. This is a wise investment that will serve to improve Plymouth residents’ quality of life.”
Governor Rell thanked Representative Hamzy for advocating for the project on behalf of the town.
“Completing this project is vital to Plymouth’s future,” said Representative Hamzy, R-78th District. “The landfill presents us with public safety, public health, and economic development issues. Completing this project will make our town more appealing for residents and businesses alike. We have been working to get these funds on the bond commission’s agenda, and that hard work has paid off. I’d like to thank Governor Rell and the Department of Environmental Protection for their support for this important project.”
In 2006, the State Bond Commission approved a $200,000 grant for the construction of a water booster pump station at Swicklas Court in the Plymouth Business Park.
