Rep. Hamzy: Bond Commission Approves $90,837 Grant for Bristol Technical Education Center |

Grant will Fund Purchase of New Computers, Networking Equipment
The State Bond Commission has approved a $90,837 grant for the Bristol Technical Education Center that will pay for new computers and related equipment for the school, state Representative William A. Hamzy, R-78th District, announced today.
The Bond Commission approved the grant at its regular monthly meeting today at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The Bristol Technical Education Center is located in Representative Hamzy’s district.
“With many companies in the Greater Bristol area and throughout Connecticut seeking new employees who are well-trained in the latest computer technology, this grant could not have come at a better time,” Representative Hamzy said. “It will ensure Bristol Technical Education Center students receive training on the most up to date computers and related equipment available and provide them with the skills that are most in demand by Greater Bristol area companies.”
“We are constantly meeting with the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, N. E. S. M. A., and area manufacturers and they tell us they are concerned about maintaining a well-trained work force after their current employees retire,” said Principal Gil Traverso. “My goal is to help provide a viable workforce for local business and industry. What we try to do is find out what entry level skills area manufacturers are looking for and simulate their work environments here at Bristol Tech. The new computer equipment this grant will enable us to acquire will help us to better achieve that goal.”
