Gov. Rell, Rep. Greene: $105,000 Grant Approved for Beacon Falls Recreation Complex, Park Renovations |

STEAP Grant will Help Fund Improvements to Pent Road Recreation Complex and Matthies Park
Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative Len Greene today announced the Town of Beacon Falls will receive $105,000 for improvements to the Pent Road recreation complex and Matthies Park.
The $105,000 STEAP grant (Small Towns Economic Assistance Program) will be invested in the renovation of the tennis and basketball courts at the Pent Road recreation complex and the repaving of the driveway and parking lot at Matthies Park.
“The people of Beacon Falls take a lot of pride in the services offered by the town. As taxpayers, they deserve the best from their town’s recreational facilities. It’s a quality of life issue and one that cannot be ignored. That is why this $105,000 STEAP grant will ensure Beacon Falls residents of all ages benefit from the best-of-the-best when it comes to recreation services,” said Governor Rell.
“Fiscal constraints over the past few years have made it difficult for the town to afford the kind of renovations needed to properly restore the basketball and tennis courts at the Pent Road recreation complex. The deterioration of these facilities had become so serious that the town was forced to close one of the basketball courts and one of the tennis courts for safety reasons,” said Representative Greene, R-105th District.
“The approval of this grant comes as welcome news to the people of Beacon Falls. It means that in the near future, residents can once again enjoy the full use of all the recreational facilities the Pent Road complex has to offer,” Representative Greene said. “I’d like to thank Governor Rell and the State Bond Commission for approving the funding that will make these renovation and improvement projects possible.”
Governor Rell chairs the State Bond Commission, which met Friday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. More than $19.7 million in STEAP funds for 72 towns were approved at the meeting. The funds will enable 83 projects across the state to move ahead.
