Rep. Greene Appointed to National Conference of State Legislatures’ Law & Criminal Justice Committee |

Committee Develops Positions on Federalism, Constitutional Law, Criminal Justice Issues for NCSL
State Representative Leonard C. Greene has been appointed to the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Law & Criminal Justice Committee by Speaker of the House James A. Amann, D-118th District.
“Serving on this NCSL committee with legislators from around the country will give me the opportunity to learn how they responded to criminal justice issues similar to those we are grappling with here in Connecticut and vice versa,” said Representative Greene, R-105th District. “If a law passed in Nevada helped lower the incidence of street robberies in Las Vegas, we should consider adopting a similar law in Connecticut to achieve the same kind of results here. Learning from the experiences of legislators from other states is what makes serving on NCSL committees so valuable for us and so beneficial to the people of Connecticut.”
The Law & Criminal Justice Committee is one of 11 NCSL standing committees. The committees meet three times each year and allow legislators and staff to benefit from the experiences of other states in shaping public policy, experimenting with new laws, and managing their legislative institutions. Policy decisions approved by the committees guide NCSL’s positions on issues and its lobbying efforts in Washington, D. C.
The committee develops positions on federalism, constitutional law, civil rights and liability issues as well as criminal justice issues such as capital punishment, corrections, crime victims, drug crime, juvenile justice, law enforcement, probation and parole and criminal sentencing.
