Rep. Greene: Bond Commission Okays Grants totaling $674,467 for Emmett O`Brien Technical High School

Grants Will Fund Purchase of New Computers and Computer Networking Equipment

The State Bond Commission has approved grants totaling $674,467 to pay for new computers and advanced computer networking equipment for Emmett O’Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, state Representative Leonard C. Greene announced today.

The Bond Commission approved the grants at its regular monthly meeting Friday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The grants will pay for new computer equipment for the library and technology areas of the high school as well as some classrooms. They also will fund the purchase of a new network switch, which will improve the school’s e-mail and local and wide-area internet access, said Representative Greene, R-105th District.

“As a legislator who believes a strong technical high school system plays a critical role in providing the well-trained, technologically proficient graduates Connecticut’s employers need, I’d like to thank Governor Rell and the Bond Commission for approving this funding,” Representative Greene said. “It will ensure Emmett O’Brien students have the advanced equipment they need to master the skills Connecticut’s increasingly high-tech companies are looking for when they interview potential employees.”

“The computers and equipment Emmett O’Brien and Connecticut’s other technical high schools will be receiving will mean our students are able to use the latest computer technology when they graduate,” said Emmett O’Brien Principal Lisa Hylwa. “It will help our students be competitive with other recent graduates from Connecticut, elsewhere in the country, and around the world when they are ready to enter the job market. The computer technology upgrades these grants will make possible will benefit both our students and their prospective employers. We are Connecticut’s technology high schools. I hope we’ll see more of this in the future. On behalf of the Emmett O’Brien High School community, I’d like to thank Representative Greene for his steadfast support for technology education in Connecticut.”
