Rep. Greene: Bond Commission Okays $122,500 in State Funding for Emmett O’Brien Technical High School |

Funding Could Be Used for Building Improvements and Upgrades, Equipment Repairs
The State Bond Commission has approved funding in the amount of $122,500 for various improvements and upgrades at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, state Representative Len Greene, R-105th District, said today.
The Bond Commission approved the funding at its regular monthly meeting today at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, Representative Greene said.
“With many manufacturers and other companies reportedly having problems finding well-qualified people to work for them, the role vocational technical high schools will play in meeting their needs will become even more important over the next few years. The renovations and upgrades this grant will make possible will make Emmett O’Brien Technical High School safer for students, faculty and administrators and enhance its ability to meet the growing demand for its graduates,” Representative Greene said.
“This grant demonstrates the state’s continuing commitment to maintaining our technical schools’ tradition of excellence. I strongly support our state’s vocational technical high school system and I’m proud of the fact that Emmett O’Brien is located in one of the towns I represent,” Representative Greene said.
“It’s wonderful the school will be receiving this funding,” said Principal Lisa Hylwa. “At this point, we haven’t received specific direction from our district office on how the grant will be used, but some possible projects could include asbestos removal, roof repairs, upgrades to our heating, ventilation and air conditioning system controls, and repairs to old equipment. The improvements this grant will finance will enhance safety in the building and make it more conducive to learning. We appreciate the state’s support for vocational technical education in the Greater Ansonia area.”
