Rep. Greene Reappointed Republican Leader on State Legislature’s General Law Committee |

Will Serve on Environment, Public Safety and Security Committees As Well
State Representative Leonard C. Greene, R-105th District, has been reappointed as the House Ranking Member (Republican Leader) on the General Assembly’s General Law Committee for the 2007 – 2008 legislative session, House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-142nd District, announced today.
“Len Greene has done an outstanding job as the Republican leader on the General Law Committee since 2001 and it was my pleasure to reappoint him for another term as our point man on this important panel. Representative Greene has been a strong advocate for consumers as both a leader and a member of this committee. I look forward to working with Len to ensure that consumers are treated fairly and honestly when they purchase goods and services in our state,” said Representative Cafero, who also reappointed him to the Environment and Public Safety and Security committees.
“Connecticut residents already shoulder a tax burden that is among the highest in the country,” Representative Greene said. “With energy costs skyrocketing as well, we should at least be able to count on getting good value for the money we spend on goods and services. While the overwhelming majority of business people in our state are reputable and honest, there are always a few individuals who have no scruples about taking advantage of honest, hard-working people. As the House Ranking Member of the General Law Committee, my highest priority will be to ensure Connecticut consumers have the full force of the law behind them to deter unscrupulous individuals from attempting to sell inferior or defective products or peddling fraudulent services.”
Energy Conservation Incentives; Protecting L. I. Sound, CT Waterways, Are Priorities for 2007
“Protecting Connecticut’s rivers and streams and Long Island Sound from contamination from harmful runoff has always been important to me – both as a southwest Connecticut resident and as a legislator,” Representative Greene said. “Replenishing the Clean Water Fund with $100 million annually, which is one of my major legislative goals for 2007 as a member of the Environment Committee, is essential to accomplishing that goal. With the cost of electricity and natural gas unlikely to drop significantly in the near future, the need to conserve energy has become more critical than ever. That is why I am working to enact incentives that will encourage Connecticut consumers to make energy conservation improvements to their homes and take other steps to reduce their energy consumption.”
“Although there have been no major terrorist incidents in the United States since 9/11, mainly because of measures we have put in place to detect and prevent new attacks, we cannot afford to let out guard down,” Representative Greene said. “Our state has hundreds of facilities that could be potential terrorist targets. As a member of the Committee on Public Safety and Security since 2001, helping to protect the people of Connecticut from terrorist atrocities always will be my most important priority.”
