Rep. Giuliano Appointed Republican Leader on Higher Education Committee

State Representative Marilyn Giuliano, R-23rd District, has been appointed as the House Republican leader on the General Assembly’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R- 142nd District, announced today.

“Representative Giuliano has served with distinction on both the education and environment committees.  She played an important role in formulating legislation and took an active part in committee debates. Marilyn demonstrated strong leadership qualities in her committee work and on the floor of the state House of Representatives. As an education professional, Marilyn has an excellent grasp of the issues facing our state’s public schools and our institutions of higher learning. Representative Giuliano was clearly ready for a new challenge and I was pleased to appoint her as our leader on the Higher Education Committee,” Representative Cafero said.

“Higher education, from our public universities and state colleges to community colleges, job training programs, and workforce development, is the key to successful adult careers for our state’s young people,” Representative Giuliano said. “As the Republican leader on the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, my main goal will be to ensure that our state’s institutions of higher learning – and job training programs around the state – have the resources and professional staff necessary to ensure the students they serve will graduate with the education and skills they need to qualify for the best jobs our state has to offer.”

The Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee is responsible for all matters relating to public and independent colleges and universities; the Department of Higher Education, including private occupational schools; the Board of Governors of Higher Education, post-secondary education and job training institutions and programs, apprenticeship training programs, adult job training programs offered to the public by any state agency or funded in whole or in part by the state, and the Office of Workforce Competitiveness.
