Greenwich Delegation: Announces Humanities Grant

HARTFORD – State Representatives Livvy R. Floren, R-149th District, Lile R. Gibbons, R-150th District and Claudia “Dolly” Powers, R- 151st District, today announced that the state has awarded a grant of $5,000 to The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich in Cos Cob. The grant is sponsored by the Connecticut Humanities Council.

The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich will use the grant for Cherishing Our Past: Preserving Greenwich History to engage a guest curator and exhibit designer.

The Connecticut Humanities Council was established as a statewide non-profit educational institution in 1974. Their mission is to provide opportunities for all Connecticut residents for the rediscovery in learning of their history and heritage through reflective reading of literature and exploration of history.

Rep. Gibbons said, “The Historical Society is one of the more interesting organizations in our community in providing a history of Greenwich, its residents, our homes and our activities. This grant will help to keep this history alive and ongoing.”

Rep. Powers said, “Since our District does such a good job of sending tax revenue to Hartford, it is very helpful to have an opportunity to bring funding back to our community which we do on a regular basis. Exceptionally worthy organizations like the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich are ongoing recipients of such grants!"
