GREENWICH DELEGATION: ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR COS COB POWER PLANT CLEANUP

 

HARTFORD– The State Bond Commission authorized funding for the for remediation of brownfields at the Cos Cob Power Plant site, State Representatives Livvy R. Floren, R-149th District, Lile R. Gibbons,R-150th District and Claudia “Dolly” Powers, R- 151st District, announced today.

 

Greenwich will receive $2,000,000 for remediation of brownfields at the Cos Cob Power Plant site. Funds will used to assist with remediation costs associated with the clean-up of the contaminated site. Specially, the funds will be used to cap the site with approximately 4 feet of soil and a rock slope apron along the shore line. Once remediation is complete, the town is committed to designing and building and building a public park on the site for active and passive recreation adjacent to the Long Island Sound.

 

Rep. Gibbons, “The remediation of the Cos Cob brown fields is a local project of great importance to Greenwich residents.  The state grant approved today is critical for continued progress on this project. “I have advocated for these clean-up funds for years."

 

Rep. Powers added, “Working together, our Greenwich delegation once again has been successful in obtaining state funds for the next major step on the Cos Cob Power Plant property.”

"This Governor ‘gets it’ – she understood the pressing need for remediation of the Cos Cob Power Plant site, and she acted.  This is a win-win for our community and the environment,” said Rep. Floren.
