Reps Floren, Gibbons, Powers Gain New Leadership Positions |

State Representatives Livvy R. Floren, R-149th District, Lile R. Gibbons, R-150th District, and Claudia “Dolly” Powers, R- 151st District, have been appointed to key leadership positions in the House Republican caucus for the 2007 – 2008 legislative sessions by House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-142nd District.
Representative Powers was named Deputy Republican Leader at Large and Representatives Floren and Gibbons were selected as Assistant House Republican leaders. In addition, Representative Powers was appointed co-chair of the House Republican Bill Screening Committee; Representative Gibbons was re-appointed as the House Republican Ranking Member (Republican leader) on the General Assembly’s Human Services Committee; and Representative Floren was selected as the House Ranking Member on the Bonding Subcommittee of the General Assembly’s Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee.
“Representative Powers has served our caucus well as a Deputy House Republican Leader and will continue to play a top leadership role as Deputy House Republican Leader at Large. Representative Floren and Representative Gibbons honed their leadership skills as House Ranking Members on the Government Administration and Elections and Human Services committees. They have an excellent grasp of the legislative process and are widely respected both within our caucus and on the other side of the aisle,” Representative Cafero said. “They all have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities over the past few years. The time was right for them to move up the leadership ladder.”
“I’d like to thank Larry Cafero for appointing me as one of his two Deputy House Republican Leaders at Large and for selecting me as one of the chairs of the House Republican Bill Screening Committee,” Representative Powers said. “As one of our caucus’ top leaders, I will be directly involved in developing the House Republican legislative agenda and our positions on major bills coming before the state House of Representatives. I welcome the challenge of working with Larry, our leadership team, and my Republican colleagues on the critical issues facing Fairfield County and the rest of our state over the next two years.”
“I’m honored to have been chosen as one of our caucus’ top leaders,” Representative Floren said. “As an Assistant Leader, I will be taking on more responsibilities and having a greater role in implementing our caucus agenda. It means I will be in an even stronger position to promote legislation that benefits Greenwich and Stamford and to protect the interests of our citizens. I‘d like to thank Larry Cafero for making me part of his leadership team and look forward to the challenges we will be facing during the 2007 and 2008 legislative sessions.”
“As both an Assistant Leader and the House Ranking Member on the Human Services Committee, my leadership role within our caucus will be significantly enhanced,” Representative Gibbons said. “I’d like to thank Larry Cafero for appointing me to these important leadership positions. It will give me a more influential voice in the formulation of policy and legislative goals within our caucus, which will mean issues of importance to Greenwich and other Fairfield County towns, such as the ongoing initiative to improve traffic flow and safety on I-95 and other highways in our part of the state, will not lose momentum over the next two years.”
