Rep. Floren Named to CT League of Conservation Voters’ 2006 Honor Roll

Cited for Working ‘‘Exceptionally Hard” On Significant Environmental Issues

State Representative Livvy R. Floren, R-149th District, has been recognized by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters’ (CTLCV) for her “exceptionally hard work on one or more significant environmental issues” during the 2006 session of the Connecticut General Assembly.

“As a legislator and a citizen who always has worked to preserve our state’s fragile environment and to protect our open space areas, forests, wetlands and watercourses from inappropriate development, being chosen by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) for inclusion on its ‘Honor Roll’ of state legislators for 2006 was truly an honor,” Representative Floren said.

“I take pride in the fact that some of the bills CTLCV used as yardsticks to rate legislators on their commitment to protecting our state’s environment were measures that I cosponsored,” Representative Floren said.

Bills selected by CTLCV as the basis for rating state legislators on their environmental voting records that were cosponsored by Representative Floren include:

·         House Bill 5447 (Public Act 06-89): An Act Concerning Encroachment on Open Space Lands, which prohibits anyone from encroaching on open space land owned by the state or a nonprofit land conservation organization without permission or legal authorization.

·         Senate Bill 660 (Public Act 06-161) An Act Concerning Clean Cars, which establishes a greenhouse gas labeling program for new motor vehicles starting with 2009 models. The program will enable potential buyers to determine which cars are environmentally-friendly, and which ones are less so.

Representative Floren also cosponsored or supported other environmentally-friendly measures. They include:

·         House Bill 5685 [Public Act 06-184]: An Act Concerning Brownfields, which creates an Office of Brownfield Remediation and Development to help towns identify, clean up, and redevelop brownfield sites(usually old industrial properties contaminated by dangerous chemicals or other substances).

·         House Bill 5570 [Public Act 06-82]: An Act Concerning Economic Incentives for Achieving Nitrogen Effluent Reductions to Long Island Sound, which provides incentives to encourage municipal wastewater treatment plants and private sector entities to reduce the amount of nitrogen they discharge into Long Island Sound.

Representative Floren was one of only 16 state legislators to be named to the league’s 2006 Honor Roll.
