Rep. Richard Ferrari announces $150,000 grant for Barkhamsted Historical Society

State Rep. Richard Ferrari (R-East Granby) is pleased to announce the Barkhamsted Historical Society will receive a $150,000 STEAP grant to assist in the continued development of the historic Squire’s Tavern in Barkhamsted.

The Barkhamsted Historical Society leased the Squire’s Tavern, which is located in Peoples Forest, to take on the responsibility of preserving and restoring the historic building.

STEAP, which stands for Small Town Economic Assistance Program, provides about $20 million annually in financial assistance for projects that encourage economic development and preserve the character of the state’s less populated towns.

“There is no question that the Barkhamsted Historical Society is well-deserving of this grant, as evidenced by the exciting improvements they’ve made since leasing this historic structure. I think I speak for everyone in this part of Connecticut when I say we look forward to the continued work they are planning for Squire’s Tavern,” said state Rep. Richard Ferrari (R-East Granby).

The State Bond Commission, chaired by Gov. M. Jodi Rell, approved the STEAP grant during its monthly meeting on March 28 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
