Rep. Richard Ferrari urges consumers to take advantage of energy cost savings program

The Department of Public Utility Control has unveiled its Summer Saver Rewards Program, aimed at allowing energy consumers to save on electricity costs by reducing energy consumption.

According to the DPUC, under the Summer Saver Rewards Program, electric utility consumers whose electric energy consumption between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2007 is at least 10 percent less than what the same customer used during that period in 2006, will receive a 10 percent credit for the generation portion of their bills.  Customer may also be able to earn credits of 15 or 20 percent. Generation costs typically represent more than two-thirds of a typical customer’s bill.

“This is part of the energy bill we passed during this legislative session. It can help people help themselves with their electricity bill by giving them some direct control over how much they spend. While it’s not an automatic decrease in their rates, it gives consumers a tool to take better control over their energy costs,” said state Rep. Richard Ferrari (R-East Granby).

All customers are eligible to receive the credits. Customers of both Connecticut Light and Power, and United Illuminating can call 1- 877- WISE USE (1-877-947-3873) to enroll or to receive more information about the program.

Rep. Richard Ferrari (R-62) represents Barkhamsted, East Granby, Granby and New Hartford in the General Assembly.
