Rep. Richard Ferrari, Rep. Linda Schofield attend ceremony for bill signing to help brew pubs |

On Friday, June 29, state Rep. Richard Ferrari (R-62), and state Rep. Linda Schofield (D-16) attended a bill signing ceremony where Gov. M. Jodi Rell signed H.B. 7138, An Act Concerning Manufacturing Permits for Brew Pubs. The bill was passed by the House by a 146-3 margin in April.
The legislation allows Connecticut brew pubs to both brew, as well as bottle and sell beer on site. Up until now, state law prohibited establishments such as the Cambridge House Brew Pub in Granby from simultaneously operating as a brew pub and a beer bottling operation.
The legislation was shepherded through the legislature by Rep. Ferrari with some assistance from Rep. Schofield. Rep. Ferrari, who sits on the General Law Committee which approved the legislation unanimously, praised the signing of the legislation.
“This was a small victory for small businesses that are trying to make it in our state. It shows that like-minded people on both sides of the aisle can work together to make a difference when we put our minds to it,” said Rep. Ferrari. “I thank the Governor for realizing that state law previously had an unintended negative impact on brew pubs in our state, and for signing this bill into law."
Rep. Schofield echoed Rep. Ferrari's sentiments. “I was happy to work in a bi-partisan manner with Rep. Ferrari to enable a local business to expand in our area,” said Rep. Schofield.
