Gov. Rell, Rep. Ferrari: $250,000 Grant Approved for Downtown Streetscape, Parking Upgrades in New Hartford

 

The State Bond Commission has approved a $250,000 grant that will pay for streetscape and parking improvements along New Hartford’s Main Street, Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative Richard F. Ferrari, R- 62nd District, announced today.

The funding, which comes from the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), was approved at today’s Bond Commission meeting.

“These funds will keep the momentum going for the downtown revitalization that is in progress along Main Street,” said Governor Rell. “Increasing public parking and making the downtown area more pedestrian friendly will have a positive impact on the local commercial district.”

“The addition of new sidewalks, along with installation of new pedestrian crosswalks and a redesign of busy intersections will have a positive effect on New Hartford,” Governor Rell added.  “Ample parking and improvements to increase foot traffic will help move the town’s economic development goals in a positive direction.”

“These improvements will bring a renewed sense of pride in the community, as well as a positive financial impact for the business community. It will attract more visitors to the downtown area, stimulate economic growth and help create more local jobs,” Representative Ferrari said. “Governor Rell is to be commended for recognizing the importance of supporting small towns and their contribution to the state’s overall economy.”

A total of $20 million was authorized for more than 100 small towns under the STEAP program this fiscal year.
