Rep. Fahrbach: Information Available Regarding Medicare Part D

Hartford—State Representative Ruth Fahrbach, R-61st, announced today that residents in Windsor, Suffield and East Granby who would like information regarding the federal Medicare Part D program are welcome to contact her office for a helpful pamphlet of information.

Medicare’s Part D prescription drug coverage is insurance that covers both brand-name and generic prescription drugs at participating pharmacies. Everyone with Medicare is eligible for this coverage and must choose a prescription drug plan, regardless of income and resources, health status, or current prescription expenses. The pamphlet, created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, offers key information for seniors to consider when choosing a drug plan.

The Federal Government has set a deadline of May 15 for enrollment in the program.  However Connecticut state law passed in 2005 allows the Commissioner of Social Services to designate a program for anyone who “does not select a Medicare Part D plan within a reasonable period of time”.

“While Medicare Part D is a federal program, state officials have received many calls from seniors with questions,” said Rep. Fahrbach. “It is important for seniors to learn all they can about the program before enrolling so that they can pick the plan that provides the best coverage for the prescriptions that they need.”
