Naugatuck Legislator Joins with Gov. M. Jodi Rell in Supporting Mrs. Connecticut’s Goal of Promoting Community Service and Volunteerism

State Rep. Kevin M. DelGobbo, R-70, Naugatuck, presented a proclamation from Gov. M. Jodi Rell to Mrs. Connecticut 2008, Lynnette Letsky Piombo of Waterbury, recognizing the importance of volunteerism.

As the reigning Mrs. Connecticut 2008, Mrs. Piombo is working to raise awareness of the importance of volunteering. Her platform for the year is the importance of community service and volunteerism.

She has been endorsed as the statewide spokesperson for Volunteermatch.org and is speaking with area organizations on how they may enlarge their volunteer bases.

Rep. DelGobbo said he is honored to help promote Mrs. Connecticut’s efforts in support of volunteerism.

“Volunteer efforts in communities across the state do amazing things to enhance the quality of life for people young and old,” said Rep. DelGobbo. “More importantly, they also provide critical life-saving services.”

“My service in state government makes me realize that these dedicated volunteer efforts can do more than government could ever hope to accomplish,” Rep. DelGobbo added.

Rep. DelGobbo has long been active in civic and community service. He volunteers as president of the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls and vice president of the Naugatuck YMCA, as well as being involved in numerous school and community organizations.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has declared April as National Volunteer Month in Connecticut.

The month of April has long been cited as National Volunteer Month. In 1974, President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing National Volunteer Week as an annual celebration of volunteering. Every president since then has signed proclamations promoting National Volunteer Week.

Additionally, Governors sign proclamations in support of the week. This year’s National Volunteer week is between April 27 and May 3, 2008.

Rep. DelGobbo serves the 70th Assembly District of Naugatuck in the state House of Representatives.
