Naugatuck Legislator Named Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary’s Highest Honor
State Rep. Kevin M. DelGobbo R-70, Naugatuck, was named a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary International’s highest honor, at a Naugatuck Rotary Club dinner held Friday night, November 16.
The Naugatuck Rotary Club selected Rep. DelGobbo for his extraordinary service to the community and state.
Rep. DelGobbo said, “I am deeply honored to have received this award. The Naugatuck Rotary Club has an extraordinary record of service in our community. Likewise, Rotary International and specifically the Rotary Foundation have a profound impact on humanitarian initiatives in the world today, including better healthcare, improved education and reduction of poverty.”
Paul Harris Fellow recognition was created in memory of Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary as a way to show appreciation for contributions to the foundation's charitable and educational program.
The Naugatuck Rotary Club has contributed $1,000 in Rep. DelGobbo’s name to the Rotary Foundation to help in its worldwide efforts. It has been a practice of many clubs to award Paul Harris Fellowship to select members in appreciation of his or her service to the club.
Every Paul Harris Fellow receives a pin, medallion and a certificate when he or she becomes a Fellow. This identifies the Paul Harris Fellow as an advocate of the Foundation's goals of world peace and international understanding.
Paul P. Harris formed the world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, in 1905.
Representative DelGobbo, now serving his sixth term in the state House of Representatives, is an active member on the board of directors for numerous civic and charitable organizations.
