Rep. DelGobbo Honored by Governor’s Horse Guard |

State Representative Kevin M. DelGobbo, R-Naugatuck, has been honored by the First Company, Governor’s Horse Guard, with an honorary commission as a Captain on the Major Commandant’s Staff by the unit’s Major Commandant Andrew J. Arsenault.
The commissioning ceremony took place at the unit barracks in Avon during a joint drill with the First Company, Governor’s Foot Guard. The Major Commandant occasionally awards such commissions to honor individuals for outstanding service to the unit, state or country.
“I am deeply honored,” DelGobbo said, “This unit has an extraordinary history and tradition of service to our state and country.”
First chartered in 1788, the unit is best known for its ceremonial role providing escort for the Governor, as well as participating in Presidential Inaugurals and other special events. The unit has also been called into active military service at various times since the Civil War.
Mission:
The Company is part of the organized militia of the State of Connecticut. Its mission is to serve the state whenever called upon by the proper officials and in whatever capacity is demanded. This may include control of riots and other disorders, traffic and crowd control, and civil defense. The Company also upholds traditional customs and displays the pageantry of the U.S. Cavalry by participating in various celebrations throughout Connecticut and occasionally in other states
Supplementary purposes of the Company include the training of Connecticut youth in military and civilian life, fostering respect in Connecticut youth for national and state histories, assisting civil authorities, including town, city and state police, in emergencies, participating in services and contributing to national, state, and local charities, and promoting and encouraging good fellowship and comradeship among its members and their families.
